5/23/2024 – Ahead of Eritrea's Independence Day, police in several countries prepare for clashes during events and celebrations, with previous violent confrontations taking place in Canada, Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, and the US. A major crackdown on dissent and freedom of the press under Isaias Afwerki's rule has resulted in a large population of young Eritreans in exile. As a result, a radical youth opposition group, the "Blue Revolution", has formed abroad for the purpose of challenging pro-government communities and events.

9/17/2023 – In September 2023, over 200 Eritrean opposition supporters were arrested in Germany after violence broke out during a cultural festival organized by supporter of Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki in the city of Stuttgart. This conflict, and similar ones taking place in Germany and Israel, showcase the divide within the Eritrean diaspora between those who live in exile and those who remain  pro-Isaias.
