10/29/2025 – ​Two members of the Russian mob Gulici were sentenced to jail after attempting to kill Iranian American journalist Masih Alinejad on behalf of the Iranian government. The Iranian government had made previous attempts to silence Alinejad through harassment and intimidation before offering a half million dollar bounty for her killing. These attempts were seen as punishment for Alinejad’s activism on behalf of women still in Iran.

5/15/2025 – Western intelligence agencies say Iran has significantly expanded its repression of overseas critics, including using kidnapping and assassination to silence dissidents, journalists, and political opposition. The regime has made considerable use of criminal organizations to act as intermediaries to carry out these acts. Western governments have been active in stopping these efforts, including targets against President Donald Trump and others within the United States and United Kingdom.

4/17/2024 – London has become a central location for threats, surveillance, and violence against Iranian journalists, according to Reporters Without Borders and UK authorities. Intimidation of these journalists has included a March stabbing of Pouria Zeraati, an anchor with Iran International, and intimidation of journalist family members still in Iran. Transnational repression in London perpetrated by Iran has grown following unrest in Iran beginning in 2022.
