12/2/2024 – Through a series of 85 interviews, this report examines gender-based digital transnational repression against exiled and diaspora women human rights defenders. Specifically, the research by Citizen Lab highlights how state or state-affiliated actors build on existing societal misogyny and patriarchism to perpetrate repressive acts.

This report includes discussions of the gendered dimensions of online threats and attacks, the motives and triggers of gender-based digital transnational repression, and the impacts on those affected.

9/18/2018 – In 2018, Citizen Lab released an investigation into the global proliferation of Pegasus operators and infections, ultimately identifying 120 ISPs in 45 countries where they suspected Pegasus infections were located. Pegasus, a mobile phone spyware suite produced by the Israel-based NSO Group, is increasingly employed by governments as a means to covertly target civil society.

3/1/2022 – Published in March 2022, this report by Citizen Lab examines the ways in which activists and dissidents living in Canada are impacted by digital transnational repression. The authors conclude that despite the serious impact of digital transnational repression on these communities, there is both little support for victims of targeting and insufficient policy efforts by the Canadian government.
